Church says

it with

flowers

VISITORS to Daresbury Church made sure they weren't late for a very important date last weekend.

For the church, made famous for its connections with Alice in Wonderland, celebrated the staging of the National Festival and Boat Show, in nearby Preston Brook, with a special flower display.

Mary Benson and her team drew inspiration from Lewis Carrol's story to transform the entrance to the church into a rabbit hole surrounded by flowers.

Indeed, 200 years ago, Lewis Carroll's father, the curate of the church, travelled by horse-drawn narrow boat to Preston Brook wharf to minister to the boat people in the parish, summoning them by bell.

That bell was also on display during the festival.

The national festival staged at Preston Brook attracted hundreds of narrow boats and a large number of visitors.
