Bridge work to be carried out by canal

HIGHWAYS officers are set to carry out a programme of road maintenance to improve a Middlewich bridge.

As part of a rolling programme of improvements Cheshire County Council is planning to replace the bridge parapets on the Cledford Lane canal bridge to bring them in line with modern standards

According to highways officials the existing bridge is not capable of containing the impact from vehicles and the following inspections on both Cledford Lane and Booth Lane have revealed that major repairs are needed.

Between October 20 and 22, the A533 Booth Lane will be closed from Alexandra Road to Cledford Crescent.

Three way traffic lights will be used between 9.30am and 3.30pm and Cross Lane and Alexandra Road will be closed to through traffic.

Bridge works will start on October 24 preventing traffic on Cross Lane and Alexandra Road from accessing the A533.

Work will also be carried out on Faulkner Drive and Cledford Lane junction for three weeks in September to raise the footways and kerbing.
