BIRCHWOOD Lions club fought off stiff competition to show they are top of the floats while raising money for charity.

The club walked away with the best float title at the annual Blackpool Lions international carnival.

The carnival, which is one of the biggest in the country, attracted thousands of holidaymakers who lined the golden mile to watch 30 floats and dancing troupes make their way to the Metropole Hotel.

The Birchwood Lions theme was Dad's Army and the float was in the form of a huge field gun, which startled a few motorists.

During the event, £5,000 was collected, all of which will go to charitable causes.
