A church's prayers are finally answered

A CULCHETH church has undergone a £10,000 refurbishment, meaning parishioners can enjoy better facilities.

Culcheth Methodist Church, on Ellesmere Road, has spent the summer carrying out a range of maintenance jobs after securing nearly £10,000 in grants.

The church also held its own fundraising events to boost the kitty for the work.

But the hard work has not stopped yet - the property committee of the church now plans to refurbish the kitchen and will be starting fundraising after the bank holiday weekend.

Some of the work carried out includes fitting out the disabled toilet with an alarm, putting a new water boiler in the kitchen and buying a scaffold to install new lights and keep up with maintenance.

The church floor has also been sanded and varnished and new windows and heating have been installed in the main community hall.

Daphne Eastburn, from the church's property committee, says they are all thrilled with the work and the support of the community in helping to get the project off the ground.

The church had been turned down by two large grant organisations before securing funding through other bodies.

Mrs Eastburn said: "Hopefully the work will make a big difference as the church is also used by a lot of community groups.

"We have just had our 40th anniversary and this work has followed on from that occasion.

"It has been a lot of hard work for a number of people but we are all thrilled and are putting the finishing touches to it."

Among those who contributed to the work are: B&Q, Culcheth Lions, the Community Chest, Warrington Charities Trust, Culcheth Badminton Club, the Historic Churches Trust and Awards For All.
