Scaling the heights

PUPILS at Weaverham High School scaled new heights with a bumper set of scores in their GSCEs last week.

The Government benchmark of five or more A* to C grades were achieved by 71 per cent of pupils, a four per cent improvement on last summer, with a quarter obtained at the highest A* to A level.

Headteacher David Charlton said: "We are delighted with these superb results which show the progress our pupils and the school have made over the past five years.

"Weaverham has a long tradition of very good examination success but these results, based solely on GCSE examinations, represent the high points of our achievements."

Matthew Lowe, of Well Farm, Antrobus, was delighted with his stunning achievement of securing an A* pass in all 11 of his subjects.

Another Matthew, Langton, of Little Leigh, notched 10 A*s and one A.

Other individuals who were rewarded with 10 or more GCSEs at A* or A included Clare Johnson, from Antrobus, Sarah Lawrence, from Whitegate, Catherine Keating and Gareth Clwyd-Jones, from Weaverham, Elizabeth Chambers and Philip Morrant, from Cuddington, Lindsay Acton, from Barnton and Charlotte Yates, from Winsford.

Mr Cameron added: "These individual results are absolutely fantastic and a clear reflection of the hard work of pupils and staff. Although some schools focus on a few specific courses to increase their pass rates, it is our strength in this wide range of subjects that makes Weaverham the successful school it is."
