Another record year for pupils

CHESHIRE pupils have smashed their GCSE pass rate record again with even more students achieving the coveted A* to C grades.

More than 61 per cent of the county's pupils have gained five or more A* to C passes this year, compared to 60.8 per cent last year and 58.9 per cent the previous year.

David Rowlands, Cheshire County Council's executive lead member for children's services, said: "All signs point to another record breaking year for Cheshire students.

"A number of schools are showing significant increases compared to last year's results.

"It is a marvellous tribute to the hard work of our young people and the dedication and support of teachers and families.

"They have made Cheshire proud."

He added: "My congratulations go to everyone celebrating exam success.

"And for those young people whose results were not all they had expected, we will be on hand to offer support and guidance."
