Laptop warning

MOTORISTS in mid Cheshire are being warned about leaving laptops and mobile phones in the boots of cars following a spate of thefts.

Thieves are using scanners to detect items which use bluetooth technology such as mobile phones hidden in car boots and glove.

Det Con Neil Read said: "They are not breaking into cars at random.

"Mobile phones which are switched on and laptops on standby give off signals which can be picked up by the scanner.

"Once they have located them, these thieves force the car boot or door and we would advise people not to leave items like this in a car at all.

"If they do they should switch them off completely."

Anyone with information on thefts involving scanners should contact police on 0845 458 0000.
