Crash victim looking forward to anniversary

THE widow of Robert Lewis said he was a man 'who lived for his family' in an interview after an inquest into his death.

Kathleen Lewis lost her husband when his car was in collision with a HGV on the A49 in December.

The inquest was held last Thursday.

Mrs Lewis, 69, from Nook Farm in Marsh Lane, Whitley, said: "He loved his family. His family were really his whole life.

"He was looking forward to his golden wedding anniversary in 2007."

The couple married in 1957 and had five children and eight grandchildren. Mr Lewis, who was 71 when he died, was a lay-preacher for more than 40 years and a keen pigeon fancier.

He was a member of Kingsway Flying Club in Warrington and the Warrington Two Bird Club - and he always offered to transport the pigeons round whenever the club moved.

But his family were the main focus of his life.

Mrs Lewis said: "We have so many happy memories of when the family came over to stay.

"There was nothing he liked better than to have his grandchildren coming to the farm.

"They would entertain him - and they all had to take an interest in the pigeons!"
