Drive back in time for

newlyweds

A VINTAGE engine took a firefighter's bride to the church in style.

Glenn Young, aged 43, and his American wife Yana, who was living in Rome when they met via the Internet, were married in Great Sankey.

The ancient fire engine was originally used at the Joseph Crosfield factory and is now stored at Chester Fire Station. Special permission for its use was granted by the Firefighter's Historical Society. Fittingly, Mr Young wore a ceremonial firefighter's uniform and work colleagues formed a guard of honour for the service in the Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints.

Mr Young said: "My uniform was pretty similar to what I used to wear when I started as a fireman 22 years ago."

He works with B watch of Stockton Heath and has now settled in the village with Yana, who hopes to continue her career as a dental practitioner.
