'Rape crimes are rare in town'

RAPE is among the most serious of crimes investigated by Cheshire Police and is treated very seriously by the Force.

While rape does occur, it is one of the rarer types of crime - 34 incidents of rape were recorded by police in Warrington between January and July this year.

During the same period last year, 36 rapes were recorded.

And rapes involving strangers are extremely rare.

Most reports that police receive involve an offender who is known to the victim as an acquaintance or a family member.

Over the next four weeks, Cheshire Police will explain how the crime of rape is investigated, the process of prosecuting a rape offender through the courts, the on-going and multi-agency support that is available to victims and why it is important for rape victims to come forward to police.
