Weaverham beaten

WEAVERHAM were unable to build on a superb start at Wallerscote Road on Saturday when at one stage it looked like 250 was a realistic target.

In the end, however, the 201 posted was not enough to prevent league leaders Prestbury from taking the points.

Young all rounder Steve Pinnington was the main contributor to the innings with a blistering 87 and with good support from Dave Holden (44), in a partnership of 130, Weaverham were sitting pretty at 150-2 after 20 overs.

The Weaverham innings then stuttered against some good Prestbury bowling and closed on 201.

Prestbury reached their target after 44 overs with Kevin Douglas, Jamie Allen and Colin Lewis each picking up two wickets.

Even though they lost, Weaverham have now proved in the past few weeks they can compete with anyone in the league and now appear to have put their early season relegation worries behind them.
