Grab a grant with the Guardian

THE Guardian is once again offering community groups and worthy causes in Northwich, Winsford and Middlewich the chance to receive grants from the Gannett Foundation.

The foundation is the charitable arm of the Gannett Company Inc, which is the parent company of the Guardian.

It provides funding to support local organisations in the areas where Newsquest operates in the UK.

If you are a representative of an organisation which is desperately trying to raise funds for a community cause, the Guardian would like to hear from you.

Guardian editor Keith Morris said: "We are always happy to support local worthy causes where we can and I would urge any organisation which feels it meets the criteria to get an application in as early as possible."

The fund is managed by Greater Bristol Foundation on behalf of the Gannett Foundation and Newsquest and supports projects which take a creative approach to fundamental issues affecting young people and people with disabilities.

It gives priority to youth projects, particularly those engaging and involving young people, and projects that benefit people with special needs, either through disability or disadvantage.

Priority for grants will be given to local community organisations for equipment or running costs of projects in the following areas:

Help for homeless people, after-school activities, youth organisations and community safety initiatives.

Grants will definitely not be given to individuals or organisations that are not registered charities; national or regional organisations unless the project addresses specific local community needs; uniformed youth groups; as part contribution to a salary whether part or full time; promotion of religious causes; endowment funds; general appeals; general contribution to costs or multi-year campaigns; medical or research organisations; animal charities.

Grants will be for £1,000-£5,000 but larger grants may be made for exceptional projects.

Applications must be submitted on the appropriate form, which can be obtained from the Guardian office at 15 Market Street, Northwich, CW9 5DT, and should be completed and sent back to the same address by September 16.

The Guardian will expect you to cooperate with reasonable arrangements for publicity for any grant given and in some cases may ask for the Gannett Foundation logo to be displayed on major items of equipment such as minibuses.
