Happy couple say 'I do' despite setbacks

A WEAVERHAM bride had more reasons than most to shed a tear at her wedding day - because she feared the occasion might never come.

Brunner Mond worker Steven, 34, and Laura McCormick (ne Capper), 27, of The Crescent, were due to marry on August 7, 2004 but they were forced to cancel arrangements when their Ye Olde Vicarage Hall reception fell through after complications with planning permission.

But after the couple's sad story was featured in the Guardian, plans for a second big day began and they finally tied the knot on Friday, August 12.

Laura, who is honeymooning in Greece, said: "The extension where our reception was due to be held wasn't granted planning permission in time and we had no time to find another venue so had to cancel everything, but Wincham Hall Hotel got in touch after seeing the article and offered to host the whole day for us at an amazing rate.

"The staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough to help and my four-year-old son Luke was so excited to be pageboy after he missed out last year.

"The day excelled anything I could have imagined and there was not a dry eye in the place. Even the hotel manager shed a tear."

But the day could have been ruined again after a last minute wedding dress hitch. Laura said: "A family friend was making the dress but things didn't work out and I ended up going, in tears, to Dawn Maria Bridal Designs three days before my wedding.

"The owner got me a beautiful gown and arranged two fittings for me and even came round on my wedding day to put me in it.

"I just want to say thank you to everyone who helped make the day so perfect for us and also to strangers who've wished me luck in the street after reading my story. Everyone has been amazing."
