banner vandals 'kick a school while it's down'

DEFIANT Meadow School campaigners replaced their protest banner after 'mindless vandals' tore it down.

Parents are petitioning the local education authority to rebuild their school, which burned down last year, on the same site rather than at land near Leek High School.

While a decision is made, however, they face round trips of up to 40 miles per day on a school run that was once within walking distance.

The latest setback happened two weeks ago when vandals slashed and burnt the banner, which was donated by McDonalds in Tunstall.

After repairing the eight-foot sign, which encourages people to support the school's campaign, school parent governor Tina West said: "The sign is back up to let the community know that we are still fighting and will not be beaten.

"I can't understand their mentality - why kick a school when it's down?"
