Forms go out to ensure everyone can vote

ELECTORAL registration forms are now being delivered to ensure every entitled household in the borough is able to vote at parliamentary and local Government elections.

The people registered to vote are now able to confirm their electoral register details on a new free phone number and also by using the Internet.

This means registration updates are immediate and more accurate as well as reducing costs of canvassing for the council.

For those with details that remain the same, re-registering has never been any easier. By simply dialling the freephone number and keying in your security code, which is printed on your form, you will then be asked to confirm your details then hang up.

The service is automated and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the canvass period until Friday, November 18.

The telephone and Internet registration systems allow you to delete information about yourself from the version of the electoral register used by mailing companies.

Council leader, John Joyce, said: "I would urge all eligible people to ensure that they are registered to vote to allow you to have your say at the elections.

"It is important to do this so you can use your vote at the next borough council elections in May 2006 and make your views known."
