Surprise for under-age drinkers

POLICE are using new tactics in their bid to curb underage drinking in Alsager.

Using plain-clothes officers and a plain car, police were able to use the element of surprise to catch three under-age drinkers in the act last Friday.

PC Scott Jones of the Alsager Community Action Team said: "In the past we have found alcohol on the floor with youths denying any knowledge of it and it's important for us to know exactly whose it is.

"They knew that we normally patrol in a high visibility vehicle - now they won't be so sure!"

Around 24 bottles and cans of alcohol were seized from 14 to 16-year-olds in the operation.
