MAT pulls out of carnival after 'disruption' claim

CREWE'S Memorial Action Team has dramatically pulled out of the Crewe Carnival parade at the end of this month after council officials suggested the group could use the event to air its political grievances.

MAT leader Frank Jones said he was dismayed at suggestions they would sabotage the carnival's showpiece for their own agenda, and has now opted to not take their reserved place.

Mr Jones said: "I must say that we are dismayed over the serious allegations that we would disrupt our carnival, and we feel discriminated against.

"We feel that our campaign was conducted with dignity, and the council has no justification with these accusations.

"With that said, we will not take part in our carnival, and we ask that our entrance fee be donated to the MacMillan Nurses as a charitable contribution from MAT."
