The Bullets are bang on target

ALSAGER Town smashed four past St Helens Town to make it a solid start to the season.

Boss Greg Clowes has demanded goals from his troops and they delivered on Tuesday night to get among the early pacesetters in NWC Division One.

In a rip-roaring end to the first half, Steve Elks was on target on 38 minutes before Jensen's quick response for St Helens.

Alsager hit back even faster with Glyn Blackhurst restoring the advantage within seconds to secure an interval lead.

Peter Heler confirmed The Bullets dominance on 70 minutes before Paul Rutter wrapped up a 4-1 victory in the final minute.

That's four points out of two after Alsager recovered from a nightmare start to draw 2-2 with Ramsbottom United, last Saturday.

Nerves must have been jangling at the Town Ground when the home side found themselves 2-0 down inside 11 minutes.

Unmarked Hartley tapped home from close range on seven minutes then John Machin deflected the ball into his own net.

But Alsager hit back hard with new signing Blackhurst a hero on his debut after his thunderbolt flew past the keeper on 21 minutes.

Momentum continued with Alsager back on level terms quickly after the break.

Elks flicked on Grocott's corner for Wayne Brotherton to net via a glancing header.

Last season's goal machine centre half repeated the feat just two minutes later but Richard Mitchell fell foul of the offside flag.

Alsager travel to NWC Two side Winsford United in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round tomorrow. A trip to Northallerton Town awaits the winners on Saturday week.

l Tuesday sees Alsager at home to Congleton in the first round of the Cheshire Cup.
