Elworth know victory is vital against Audley

ELWORTH CC face their most important game of the season so far on Saturday.

Victory at fellow strugglers Audley would be a massive boost in the club's battle to stay in NSSC Premier Division.

Mid-table beckoned but a slide over the last several weeks has booked the club a relegation dogfight.

With games against title contenders Stone and Moddershall still to go, Elworth will feel victory is a must at the weekend.

Their plight wasn't helped by last Saturday's home clash with Porthill Park off due to the rain.

Elworth seconds did get out against the same respective opposition.

Dixon led Park's charge with 80 off just 63 balls as they went for it, declaring on 132 for 1 off only 16 overs.

Despite a few wobbles, opener Ross Kesteven (29) and Ryan Jones (26no) saw Elworth through to the draw.

l Haslington suffered another tanking in their traumatic NSSC Division One campaign.

Rock-bottom, they went down to Barlaston in a reduced overs match by seven wickets.

Dean Bedson's form with the bat has been one of Haslington's rare pluses in 2005 and he delivered once again, last Saturday.

He was almost the entire innings, smashing 53 as the visitors reached 89-8.

Sanjay Gill starred with an all around performance for the promotion-chasers, taking 5-30 and then hitting 56 to hit their target for only three down.

Haslington will entertain Bignall End on Saturday.

l Weather denied Weston an opportunity to leapfrog Norton in Hales in NSD League Senior A.

With both teams just hovering above the bottom two, rain ruined this important clash.

And Weston were on top in their quest with Norton in trouble on 92 for 6 when play was abandoned (Asad Shah 4-31).

They'll be looking to stop the rot and win at Endon on Saturday.

l Nantwich's fight to stay in CCCL's ECB Premier took a big blow.

No play was possible in their clash with fellow strugglers Toft.

And they failed to reach the JW Lees Fred Graham 20/20 Trophy final by just two runs.

Andy Wilgoose took five for 14 as Neston made 133-8 off their allotted overs.

James De Terte's excellent 62 along with 24 from Doyle took the Dabbers mighty close but they ended up 131-4.

League action again with trip to Alderley Edge is next, on Saturday.
