Guardian readers rally round for homeless cats

ANIMAL-LOVING Guardian readers have flocked to the RSPCA Cattery at Stapeley to answer a plea for help from friendly felines desperate for a loving home.

After the plight of five long-term homeless cats was highlighted in The Guardian last week, the cattery had a surge in caring locals wanting to give a home to a lonely cat.

And Millie, featured in the paper and pictured above, has found her purr-fect home with a young couple - who also adopted the boyfriend she grew attached to in the cattery.

Animal care assistant Pam Livesey said: "Since the article was featured we have re-homed 10 cats as compared to an average four per week.

"However we are very full with a long waiting list and need more kind people to rescue our cats, especially the older ones."

This time of year is often the most difficult for the cattery as people wait until after their holidays to pick a pet and more abandoned cats are brought in.
