League in umpire crisis

THE Murray Smith Cheshire County Cricket League is struggling for umpires.

The premier cricket league in Cheshire is currently 10 umpires short of a full compliment for this Saturday's fixtures.

Rick Davis, umpires appointment secretary believes the availability will be around 25-27 with 36 umpires needed to cover the games in all three divisions.

This means that up to 11 matches may have to be played with only one umpire, unless volunteers can be found to assist.

The league is therefore calling for anyone with experience of umpiring at a reasonable level who can help to contact Davis on 01625 422368 or 07761 495919.
