HOMES in Runcorn were left without power for several days following an arson attack in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Firefighters were called to the scene, in Merlin Close, Castlefields, at 2.45am, after rubbish was set alight at the top of a stairwell next to an electric mains cupboard.
A police spokesman said: "Bin bags were set on fire at the top of a stairwell causing substantial damage to the premises which were occupied at the time.
" There was also a serious threat to nearby occupants."
No one was hurt in the incident, which affected more than 30 homes in the area and left many without electricity until Tuesday.
