More financial help for cancer sufferers ... MP backs calls to Government

HELEN Jones, MP for Warrington North is calling on the Government to help people in financial distress who have been diagnosed with cancer.

Mrs Jones is also backing a new website promoting men's health and lifestyle issues which is specifically targeting male prostrate and testicular cancers.

Cancer Research UK's 'Reduce the Risk' is a five-year campaign to raise awareness of the importance of lifestyle changes for cancer prevention.

Mrs Jones said: "More

than three quarters of people surveyed said that they had run up extra bills during treatment.

"Many of these extra bills result from such things as travel costs to and from hospital as well as car parking when attending regular treatment.

"I am calling on the Government to work with Macmillan to review the help available to meet these costs to ensure that cancer patients do not have to worry about finding the money to attend the life saving treatment."
