DEATH CRASH

A 43-YEAR-OLD woman died in the wreckage of her car after a crash at a notorious blackspot.

The woman had been travelling in a blue Mercedes Compressor on Sunday evening when she lost control in High Legh and collided with a garden wall.

Her car then collided with an on-coming green Ford Galaxy at the junction of Warrington Road and Heath Lane at 6.25pm.

The victim was killed at the scene.

The junction is known to be a dangerous one for drivers and has been described by one resident in the area as an 'accident waiting to happen'.

Another woman, who lives yards from where the tragedy took place, said:

"There have been a lot of accidents here in the past. Someone was killed on this stretch last year and the same happened on Sunday."

Heath Lane was closed until 10.30pm on Sunday while officers carried out inquiries. The driver of the Ford Galaxy was uninjured.

Police are appealing for the drivers of two vintage cars to get in touch. They are believed to have stopped at the scene and may have seen the two vehicles prior to the crash.

Witnesses should call Sgt Steve Griffiths 01244 350000.
