Words to the wise for a tree of hope

'I WISH there were no more bombings', 'I wish no-one would ever go hungry', are some of the touching messages written by local children on a wish tree at Nantwich Museum.

During the school holidays children who come to look around the museum are being encouraged to write a wish close to their hearts on a paper leaf, to form a tree of hope.

The museum's Art is Allsorts group created the tree as part of their display, which also features a paper mache life-size lady sunbathing and bugs made from bottles, to highlight the message that beauty can be found in everyday items.

Their display is just one of the pieces in a special exhibition highlighting the different groups that use the museum.

Featured are everyone from wine tasters and French speakers to bookworms and craft enthusiasts.

Susan Pritchard, from the museum, said: "As it is the summer holidays we wanted to highlight groups and clubs people may be interested in but not know about."

For example, a research group which looks at the origins and development of Medieval Nantwich has displayed their findings and the Civic Society has contributed a display of their own local campaigns to improve the environment and quality of life in the town.

A landscape history group will be researching Acton next month and the Tile Project is showing tiles found in Crewe's streets from houses dating back to 1880.

The museum has details for joining any of the groups and can be contacted on 627104.
