Accident blackspot claims life of biker

HEARTBROKEN family members have this week paid tribute to a "passionate person who loved life" after a Nantwich man was killed in a horror collision on the notorious A530 Middlewich Road.

Stephen Phillip Ireson, aged 34, of Chadwick Close in Stapeley, died last Wednesday when the motorbike he was riding was in collision with a car on the A530 near to Crewe's Leighton Hospital.

Stephen was riding a black Honda motorbike when the collision with a silver Nissan Primera occurred just before 7.30pm, near to the road's junction with Pyms Lane.

The 34-year-old technical director suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A statement released by Stephen's wife and family, who have asked not to be named, said: "Stephen was a very passionate person who loved life and his family.

"His death will not diminish our memories of his character and our love for him."

A spokesman for Mersey Regional Ambulance Service said the driver of the Nissan Primera, a 37-year-old man from the Middlewich area, was taken to Leighton Hospital for treatment.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and has been released on police bail until September 24.

A fire brigade spokesman added: "Although Middlewich Road is four miles long, the road is one of the worst accident blackspots in Cheshire."
