In protesters view housing is wrong

A NEW housing development including 70 homes looks set to be built at Old Mill Road in Sandbach, despite strong objections from the town council.

Should the project get the green light from planning bosses next Tuesday the vacant site will become home to 63 two-bedroom apartments in six separate blocks.

The application by Morris Developments also includes five three-bedroom homes, one with two bedrooms and one single bedroom studio.

But town councillors objected to the scheme saying that the view of Sandbach from the Wheelock bypass would be spoilt by the development.

They said the access road was near an extremely busy roundabout and would introduce further dangers and delays.

A planning spokesman said: "The form of the development in my opinion makes best use of this sustainable site and the revisions both in terms of layout and access have mitigated any adverse impact on highway safety and nature conservation."

Officers have recommended that the project get the thumbs up, on the condition that 18 of the homes are 'subsidised affordable housing' to be in shared ownership.

They also said a payment should be made by the developers in lieu of providing a children's play area.
