Roy takes to the road to return a favour

WHEN Roy Moss was left paralysed from the waist down after a horrific motorbike accident, friends rallied round and organised a sponsored bike ride to buy him a wheelchair.

Now, 10 years on, Roy, of New Lane, Croft, is returning the favour by taking part in a sponsored bike ride to raise cash for the spinal injuries unit at Southport Hospital.

He will cycle from the hospital, where he spent six months of his life, to his parent's farm in Risley on a special hand bike.

Friend, Fergus Dalgarno, has pledged to donate £1,000 if the team of 25 cyclists wear t-shirts with the name of his company.

Roy, aged 36, said: "I just wanted to give something back really. The unit looked after me so well and have always been there for me so I wanted to raise some cash for people who are in a similar situation that I was in.

"I'm in training at the moment and have been doing about nine miles a day so hopefully I'll be up to it when the time comes."

The sponsored bike ride takes place on Sunday, August 28. Anyone who wants to sponsor the team should contact Roy on 07801628682.
