Wheelchair service looks to expand

THE Warrington Disability Partnership's free wheelchair loan service is looking for help to fund 10 new wheelchairs.

Launched in 2002 with only 50 chairs, the partnership rapidly expanded its fleet to 250.

But the group now needs to raise £1,650 to purchase an additional six children and four adult models.

The high demand is partly due to the summer season, as many chairs are loaned out to families for their children or elderly relatives to join them on holiday or days out.

The wheelchairs are available in all sizes, suitable for young children to large adults, and are available to members of the public 'free' for up to six weeks.

The team at the Centre for Independent Living can also drop-off or pick-up the wheelchairs, used by nearly 700 people in the past 12 months.

Any donation will be gratefully received and if you are planning fundraising events, the WDP will be very happy to work with you on developing your plans.
