Cool as you like

FUNNYMAN Phil Cool is gearing up for his double-header of comedy at Crewe's South Cheshire College next month in support of a local charity.

The popular TV comic is dropping by to treat members of the public to two evenings of face-bending humour at the college's Dane Bank Theatre.

Some 20 per cent of the show's profits will be ploughed into supporting St Luke's (Cheshire) Hospice, based in Winsford. Phil is known as the UK's 'stand-up chameleon' and is one of the country's most original and unique talents.

Theatre manager Matt Crummack said: "We are really looking forward to Phil's first live appearance at the theatre and both nights promise to be great occasions.

"We decided that some of the profits from the night should be donated to a good local cause and chose St Luke's because it is an appeal which many people in South Cheshire are aware of.

"We would urge anyone who is thinking of coming to either of the shows to book their tickets now and help to raise money for a good cause.

"Nights like this are a great spectacle for South Cheshire College and interest has already been extremely high."

Cool has proved himself a keen supporter of the college and played a key role in the feature film Upstaged, created by students in summer 2003.

St Luke's, which serves South Cheshire residents, cares for and supports people with lifethreatening illnesses.

Community fundraiser Rebecca Evans said: "It is public support such as this that enables us to raise the £4,000 per day we need to continue the specialist care that we provide to those with a terminal illness, and their families in our local communities."

The shows will be filmed and shots of the audience will be used in the production of a future DVD.
