Dabbers aim to deliver entertainment

NANTWICH Town head coach Steve Davis is calling on the town to get behind the club as they bid for a successful season.

The Dabbers are intent on having a real good go at mixing it with the big guns in North West Counties Division One come Saturday at 3pm.

It's been an impressive summer to say the least with 11 new faces brought in to strengthen the squad and Davis is confident these lads can make a big impression.

Now he'd like to see a wealth of new supporters at Jackson Avenue and beyond.

"We're really looking forward to it now," he said.

"Now we're looking for more local supporters to come and watch us, especially this Saturday with Crewe at Brighton.

"Let's get the Nantwich people out there to watch us.

"We've worked really hard over the summer to get a team together that will play exciting football.

"We've got some talented players here and we've come a long way. The atmosphere around the team is good."

New recruits James Marrow and Mark Grice were on target in their final warm-up at Division One hopefuls Winsford United. "It was a decent game and I was quite impressed with Winsford," continued Davis.

"They gave us a good workout and although we picked up a couple of knocks, we should only have Paul Taylor missing for Saturday.

"It was a big bonus getting James Marrow through the game.

"Gricey got another one so that's a few in pre-season."

The Dabbers launch their season at home to Bacup Borough on Saturday, followed by a trip to Skelmersdale United on Tuesday.

"Both games are tough," added Davis.

"Bacup have brought in a couple and Skem are good at home.

"It's a tough start but we've got to play them sometime and it's all about what we do anyway."

Nantwich Town are running Soccer Schools throughout the weeks over the school holidays.

The courses for ages 6-11 take place at both Wrenbury School and Jackson Avenue, between 9.30am and 2.30pm.
