History man Mark puts church on the small screen

ST Oswald's Church in Winwick will be starring in a new TV series due to get under way tonight, Thursday.

And Warrington author, Mark Olly, will be rivalling Time Team's Tony Robinson as anchorman for this archaeological look back through the north west's past.

The 42-year-old, from Cinnamon Brow, will present Lost Treasures of the North West for Granada TV.

Mr Olly, who has already written books on the region's ancient heritage, had his idea for a TV series because so many undiscovered sites are in the area.

The first episode will feature Winwick's St Oswald's Church and a later one will explore Daresbury.

Mr Olly said: "People have helped us tremendously to unearth new evidence and the series proves that many people even have lost treasures in their back garden. We now have enough for a second series."

Runcorn, Llanarmon in North Wales, Wirral, Widnes, Preston, Morecambe, Chester, Tatton and Knutsford will also feature.
