Community challenge

SPARTA (St Peter's Way Area and Tenants Association) works for its community through fundraising, working to improve the community, social events and helping tenants in any way possible.

To date it has raised almost £800 and has been awarded £50,000 from WREN as part of the Village Green Community Centre Challenge 2004.

A Sparta spokesman said: "We are very grateful to WREN for its support and intend to make good use of the money we were awarded."

But Sparta needs more financial help from other funders if it is to get the proposed community centre built and up and running.

Sparta also needs more residents and tenants to get involved with meetings and fundraising events.

Meetings are held every third Tuesday of the month at St Peter's Court starting with a councillor surgery at 6.30pm and the meeting starts at 7pm. All residents and tenants are welcome and there are representatives from the council and police at the meeting.

Sparta needs people to help refurbish St Peter's Park area. A survey has been done to see what the parents and children of the area would like to see on the park.
