Stefan leads by example

BRIDGEWATER High School won two of their four games during their rugby union tour of South Africa.

They lost their first two games against high calibre opposition, with an 8-7 defeat against Kasselyslei High School being followed by a 34-8 loss against Outeniqua.

But they then recovered with a 34-8 win against Paarl High and a 38-14 victory against Langa, and teacher Paddy Moran, who accompanied the team, says everyone enjoyed the tour.

He said: "It was a cracking tour and it was really successful. The standard of the opposition was high, and everyone had a great time and made a lot of friends.

"It was a great experience for everyone and gave them a flavour of what life's like over there, particularly in the townships."

Moran described team captain Stefan Downey as 'a great ambassador for the school', while fellow back rowers Jake Ashall and Scott Hopkin were also in good form on the tour.
