A MEMBER of St Helens Classic Car Association drove away with the Car of the Show prize at the Oldham and Shaw Gala.

Rob Jones' Triumph Herald was judged the finest of the 40 classic cars on display in the prestigious annual event.

The award justifies the hours of restoration work that he has put in to make his cherished car look as good as new. It was also a massive boost for the club, which now boasts a group of around 30 local motoring enthusiasts and continues to grow year after year.

Club chairman David Jones said: "We take our cars and the St Helens banner all over the country, helping to put our town on the map in the classic car field. We meet at 7.30pm on the third Thursday of every month at the Alfred pub in Shaw Street and people with any type of car are welcome to join. We even have a couple of power cars!"
