Brothers sentenced for attack

MOBILE phone pictures helped identify two brothers who attacked an eastern European on Runcorn High Street.

Edgars Mardekajs had only been in the UK for a month, had a work permit and was employed.

On Saturday, April 23 he went out with his friend Karel Kolpatov to Last Orders pub in Runcorn town centre at about 10.15pm.

Inside there was a dispute with the Crimp brothers and when the two immigrant workers came out they were set upon.

Lee Crimp, 22 of Tan House, The Brow, Runcorn pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and wounding with intent.

Dean Crimp, 21, of Charlton Close, Runcorn pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

On Friday Warrington Crown Court heard that Dean Crimp struck a blow to Mr Mardekajs, who fell to the ground. Mr Kolpatov dodged a blow.

Lee Crimp was seen approaching Mr Mardekajs from behind, holding his head and slashing his face with a key causing a 14cm cut.

The court heard that a witness took pictures on his mobile phone, which helped police identify the Crimps.

Defending Dean Crimp, Simon Leong described him as a man with hope who had expressed remorse for his actions.

In defence of Lee Crimp, Simon Berkson said: "This defendant is horrified by what he did that night.

"He recognises drink played a part and it is to be hoped he can change his lifestyle."

Judge David Hale ordered Lee Crimp to four years, of which he has already served 98 days.

He sentenced Dean Crimp to 50 weeks in a young offenders institute, suspended for one year. He must also pay £200 compensation and do 200 hours work under a community order.
