Girl, 19, stole clothes

A NORTHWICH teenager admitted stealing £70 worth of stock from two town centre stores when she appeared before magistrates on Thursday last week.

Gemma Claire Parkes, 19, of Cockington Close, Leftwich, took bras and socks from Matalan worth £37.50 before lifting two pairs of trousers and a vest from Instore worth £28 in the afternoon of Tuesday, August 2.

Sue Gibson, prosecuting, told the court that Parkes had placed the items in a carrier bag without paying before she was challenged by staff at Instore who had spotted her removing the items from display.

Derek Mcdonald, defending, said that Parkes did not have enough money to live off, which is why she decided to steal the clothing from the shops.

Magistrates ordered Parkes to return to court for sentencing to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
