A LOSTOCK couple will be celebrating 50 years of married bliss doing what they love most - dancing the night away.
Norman and Kathleen Insley, of Townshend Road, plan to mark their golden wedding anniversary this Saturday on the dance floor, precisely the place where they met.
The pair first saw each other at a session at the old Victoria Road swimming baths when the pool was covered and converted into a dance hall.
Both believe that sharing their love for dance has played a part in their lasting happiness with each other, as well as keeping them active.
Kathleen, 73, said: "We've danced all our lives and still feel as young as ever, although you do feel it more the next day nowadays.
"We are very active and won't stop in if we can help it, to the point that the rest of the family wonder if something is wrong if we don't go out."
Norman, 75, and Kathleen also like to go walking and visit friends, as well as spend time with their three children - Norman, Janet and Karen, and six grandchildren.
When asked the secret of a long and lasting union, Kathleen said: "We enjoy each other's company and understand one another, and Norman doesn't let me forget how much he loves me."
The couple wed at Lostock Church before spending their honeymoon in Blackpool, just months before Norman was called to Suez as part of the Royal Engineers.
He admitted being away from home so soon after they were married was tough, although he did make it back just in time for the New Year's Dance, proof enough that he is equally deft at avoiding stepping on his wife's toes off the dance floor as well as on it.
