Driver was over the limit twice in a month

A NORTHWICH man was found asleep at the wheel of his car while nearly three times over the legal limit - twice within a month.

Andrew Crick, 39, of Manor Road, Cuddington, admitted two offences of being in possession of a vehicle when alcohol levels in his blood were over the limit when he appeared before magistrates in Northwich last Thursday.

Sue Gibson, prosecuting, told the court that on Sunday, May 8, Crick had been discovered by police officers asleep at the wheel of his Ford Mondeo parked in a lay-by.

A specimen taken at Northwich police station recorded 101mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, which is well above the 35mg limit.

On a second occasion four weeks later on Sunday, June 5, Crick was found once again slumped over the wheel of his parked car after a heavy drinking session.

This time the lowest recorded reading was 106mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Derek McDonald, defending, said that Crick had started to drink heavily to deal with the turmoil of discovering his partner was pregnant.

Chairman of the bench, Dr John Woulds, said he considered the circumstances to be aggravated by the second being committed by Crick while he was on bail for the first.

He told Crick he will face a community based punishment when he returns to court on Friday, August 26, following the preparation of a pre-sentence report.
