Laying the community foundation

A VISION of bringing community organisations closer together will turn to reality next month with the launch of a unique foundation.

The Warrington Wolves Community Learning and Sport Foundation is the first of its kind to be based at a sporting stadium.

Clr Terry O'Neill, who is on the board of trustees, said the reality of the new scheme was even better than the vision.

He added: "On behalf of the foundation, I would like to thank all the many partner agencies, organisations and people across the community who have been so instrumental in its development from a simple community liaison group to a very special example of a true working partnership.

"The reality is even better than the vision."

The foundation has been set up to let the Wolves and Warrington Borough Council build on its past community work - and to expand it throughout Warrington.

It will focus on using sport to promote learning with the aim of improving the quality of life for everyone involved.

Neil Kelly, who will be director of the foundation, said: "There is no doubt that, away from the field of play, Wolves' greatest strength is the work developed in conjunction with the local authority over many years within out community.

"With the new stadium, the formation of the foundation enables is to now take this work to a new and unprecedented level."

The foundation, based on the community floor in the stadium, will be given an official launch in the near future and a number of activities and events are planned in the coming months.
