Warrington Wolves 10 St Helens 30

WOLVES' fight back floundered against enterprising St Helens at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Two second-half tries by Martin Gleeson and Paul Noone put Wolves back in the running at 18-10 after trailing by 18 points at the break.

But the devastating pace and thinking of Darren Albert, after retrieving a long kick, split Wolves' defence so that Ade Gardner could finish off the crucial score.

A late try by Paul Wellens added to Saints' first-half efforts by Mike Bennett, Sean Long and James Graham, while Paul Sculthorpe kicked four conversions and one penalty goal.

Chris Bridge kicked Warrington's solitary conversion.
