Belly dancing - the hips way to stay in shape

LADIES wiggled their hips and shimmied their shoulders at the first belly dancing class held in St Mary's Church Hall, Wistaston, last week.

Colourful scarves and jangly jewellery brought a touch of the exotic to the evening and the uplifting music got even the shyest participants shaking their stuff.

The dance moves are quite energetic and good exercise for the stomach and hips as well as extremely good fun.

Teacher Sue Thomason, a holistic therapist and Reiki master, has always loved dancing and finds that once people try belly dancing they are hooked.

"It becomes part of your life - now I can't keep still, my hips have a life of their own and I love getting dressed up in the glamorous gear."

Anyone is welcome to join the classes at St Mary's until August 30. Then with her able assistant, Lynn Swift, Sue hopes to carry on the classes at Dane Bank Theatre in September.
