POLICE are appealing for information to help trace the owners of a safe suspected of being involved in a crime.

The safe was found last week near to St Chad's Church but police have been unable to trace its owner.

Insp Brian Roberts, from Winsford Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: "The safe has been forced which is an indication that it may be from a burglary or theft.

"Has this safe been discarded by the owner or is it recovered property from a burglary?

"We are continuing to make inquiries and we are carrying out a forensic examination of the safe."

The safe is a white Centurion 1200 and anyone with information should contact Det Con Paul Matchett on 01244 612599.
