Nursing home demolition begins

DEVELOPERS have begun demolishing a former nursing home.

The job is expected to take workmen four weeks.

Preparation work to tear down part of Barclay Park in Hall Lane, Mobberley, began almost two months ago.

"I've been down there and they're pretty busy at the moment," said Dominic Donnini, who oversees Sunrise Senior Living's projects in the North.

Workmen have created access routes to the site and protected nearby trees from damage during the construction of an improved nursing home for 105 elderly residents.

The new home should open in December next year.

Architects have modelled the development on features and materials found on buildings in Mobberley.

Last year staff and about 50 residents at Barclay Park were forced to leave when owner Paul Robinson announced that the home was to close.

Local nursing staff feared the closure would put more strain on patients and other homes that were almost full.

Planners approved Sunrise's proposals to take over the site because they believed the development would satisfy a pressing need for residential care.
