Detector raises alarm

FIREFIGHTERS rescued a man who fell asleep with a pan on the stove.

His neighbours heard the flat's smoke alarm, dialled 999 and firefighters broke in and found the man asleep at 11.50pm on Sunday, July 31.

Sub officer Tom Foster said: "The man was lucky to get out. It's fortunate his neighbours heard the smoke alarm and we would urge anyone without one to get in touch."
