Dramatiic collapse for Knypersley

KNYPERSLEY 1st X1 suffered a stunning batting collapse on Saturday to scupper their chances of going top.

Second-placed Knypersley had restricted leaders Moddershall to 205 for eight, but were pinned down by the visiting bowlers.

They progressed to 96 for three after 32 overs, but failed to add a single run in the following 12 overs.

Over the same period they lost six wickets, and ended on 100 for nine off 46 overs, scoring at just over two runs an over.

Qaisar Abbas top scored with 40, Ross Salmon hit 34, and five batsmen were dismissed without scoring.

Moddershall stood at 105 for one at one stage, Abbas the pick of the Knypersley bowlers with three wickets for 40 off 16 overs.

Rob James took one for 24 off nine, and Mark Tournier claimed one for 86 off 21 overs.

Moddershall earned nine points, to six for Knypersley, who are nine points behind the leaders.

Knypersley lost at Leek on Sunday in the semi-final of the Staffs Cup after being bowled out for 141.

Number eight batsman Danny Hancock top scored with 32, and Jonathan Cumberbatch hit 31.

Leek replied with 144 for four, their last wicket falling with the total on 72.

Tournier, Neil Dutton, James and Hancock each took one wicket.

Knypersley travel to sixth-placed Burslem tomorrow.
