'Don't spend school holidays starting fires'

CHILDREN playing with matches could maim themselves and end up in court, warn firefighters.

A spate of bush and grass fires throughout Runcorn, coinciding with the start of the school summer holidays, has prompted crews to appeal to parents.

"We would like to remind parents that any children who are deliberately setting fire to bushes and grass are liable for prosecution," warned leading firefighter Chris Rodaway.

"And children could end up getting trapped and injured in these fires.

"There are plenty of free activities going on through the holidays. Starting fires should be the last thing they do."
