Diamond wedding couple take a trip back in time

LOOKING back on 60 years together will literally be a trip down memory lane for one Northwich couple.

Charles and Hilda Hayes, who married at Witton Church in 1945, have many a travelling tale to tell from their time together.

Whether on regular Sunday afternoon road trips to Wales, holidays in Malta, visiting the set of Emmerdale or even a few days in New York, Charles and Hilda adored seeing the sights together.

Hilda, 80, now lives at Daneside Nursing Home, and said: "No one trip is my favourite, they were all smashing, and we simply loved the buzz of travelling around."

The pair have loved each other's company since the day they met at a Northwich fairground.

Charles, 81, grew up in Wincham and now lives in Anderton. He said: "We think the world of each other, and that has been the source of our happiness.

"We were always together, never apart, and even now spend every day together."

Hilda celebrated her birthday yesterday, Tuesday, and will be joined by Charles and their only son, Charles, for a special meal on their anniversary tomorrow.

They are also hoping the party will be given royal approval as they await a congratulatory message from the Queen.
