Drink-drive woman must stay at home

A NORTHWICH woman who crashed her car while nearly four times over the legal limit has been given a three-year driving ban.

Lynn Maguire, 33, of Works Lane, Lostock Gralam, also faces a 12-month community order and a daily curfew after being sentenced by magistrates at Northwich on Monday.

The court heard how Maguire lost control of her vehicle and ended up in a ditch on the night of June 28 this year.

Carolyn Viviani, prosecuting, said that a recording of 134mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath was taken at the scene in two separate samples, which is well above the 35mg legal limit.

Derek McDonald, defending, said: "It was an horrific reading and given that she had consumed that much alcohol there is little surprise that there was an accident.

"She admits she has a recent history of drinking to excess in order to forget the loss of her mother, which has caused a huge strain on her.

"This is the jolt she needed to sort her life out."

Magistrates warned Maguire that they were 'concerned with the very high reading' of the sample taken at the scene, although they had decided a custodial sentence would be inappropriate.

Maguire will have to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work in the community as well as observing a three month curfew which requires her to remain indoors between 10pm and 8am each day.

She was also ordered to pay costs of £20.
