WARRINGTON Wolves are hoping to confirm the signing of Australian superstar Andrew Johns on a short-

Wolves' interest in the 31-year-old Newcastle Knights star emerged in the media Down Under over the weekend and, work permit allowing, a deal is on the cards for Johns to join Warrington until the end of the season once his Knights commitments are over for the campaign.

This would mean Johns, widely regarded as the best player in the world, being available for Wolves against Leeds on September 11, Hull on September 18 (with the dates being subject to change should Sky wish to cover them) and subsequent play-offs matches.

Wolves' capture would bring about the questions of how head coach Paul Cullen would fit Johns into his team plans, with skipper Lee Briers, Australian Nathan Wood and youngster Chris Bridge having dominated the half back positions this year; and also how he would be accommodated on the overseas quota - which is currently full.

For the full story surrounding Wolves' move to bring Johns to The Halliwell Jones Stadium, see Thursday's Warrington Guardian.
